**Pompano Beach is a mecca for beach lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

**Built in 1916 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Sample-McDougald House reflects what life was like during the pioneer days of South Florida.
**Another must-see for history buffs is the Ely Educational Museum (Blanche & Joseph Ely House), which features a vast collection of items and artifacts relating to the black community in Pompano. 

**If your interest lies further into the past, visit the Indian Mound Park , a prehistoric burial mound with views of the Intracoastal Waterway. 

**To find out what life was like in South Florida during the 1940s, visit the Kester Cottages , two restored cottages that are owned and operated by the Pompano Beach Historical Society.  One of the cottages houses a collection of artifacts that tell the story of old Pompano Beach. 

**The city’s first fire station, Old Pompano Fire Station, features a collection of photographs and artifacts that tell the story of fire fighting dating from the 1920s. 

**Located outside of Pompano is the early 20th-century  Stranahan House , a dignified Victorian-style mansion that has been lovingly restored to its original 1913 style and design. 

**Located nearby is a smaller beach, North Ocean park/Wahoo Bay, which is considered by many to be one of the prettiest beaches on Florida’s Gold Coast. This 150-yard long stretch of pristine sand offers wonderful views of the inlet’s jetty and the historic Hillsboro lighthouse , considered the brightest lighthouse in the southeast. Built in 1907, this 142-foot tower offers tours and houses an interesting museum for maritime enthusiasts.

**Pompano Beach is also a top choice for fishing enthusiasts. Take a stroll onto the 1,000-foot-long fishing pier, open to the public 24/7. The pier offers several concessions, small shops and equipment rentals.
